REHEARSAL NOTES
We will rehearse the following this week:
- Beatles medley (Michelle, Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday) by J. Lennon & P. McCartney (still searching for a decent sound file of this arrangement)
- Gypsy Dance from Carmen by Georges Bizet
As we continue looking at music for the spring concert, we’ll read through:
- El Gato Montés by Shelley Hanson
Next week, expect to read through three to four pieces under consideration for the concert:
- The Fairest of the Fair by John Philip Sousa
- Sheherazade [sic]by Rimsky-Korsakov (if parts are present; sound file to be posted)
- Ba-Shanah ha-Ba’ah by Nurit Hirsh
Unless otherwise noted, sound files are located at: https://delanocommunityband.org/women-of-music/
NEWS & INFORMATION
“Women of Music” – 2020 Spring Concert Music
Thank you for your composer and music suggestions for our “Women of Music” concert this Spring! We’ll continue taking your suggestions and reviewing works by, for, and about women through January. The only requirement for your suggestions is that the music has to have been written by a woman (preferably), for a woman, or about a woman. Below a few of the suggested compositions/composers available to us that we’ve received from band members so far.
Needed Instrumentation
We continue our search for musicians who like to perform. Our critical need at the moment is for low brass – trombones (tenor and bass) and tuba(s). We also need to add flutes and clarinets.
Additionally, one or more of the following – in no particular order – would greatly help round out instrumentation:
- horn
- oboe
- baritone
- alto clarinet
- bass clarinet
- euphonium
Finally, we need to identify (or find) an assistant/associate conductor. While I’m good through the spring concert, my schedule after that becomes increasingly more demanding than in the past (I’ll provide more detail in a few weeks.).
Life happens when you’re making music!
We all know that life happens when you’re making music. We know not everyone can make every single rehearsal and performance. And we can handle the occasional absence. As a courtesy to your fellow musicians, respect their time – do your best to arrive and be ready to play at 7:00 PM and let us know when you will be absent. The room is always open by 6:30 PM on rehearsal evenings. Please keep this in mind when you’re planning your Tuesday!
